Ryder Cup 2027: Jon Rahm confident he can 'work out' deal with DP World Tour to avoid ban and stay eligible for Team Europe

Jon Rahm insists he is confident of being able to negotiate an agreement with the DP World Tour that would keep him eligible to feature for Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Rahm has yet to settle outstanding fines - reportedly over £2million - for breaching DP World Tour regulations by playing in LIV Golf League events without permission.

The Spaniard last month rejected the DP World Tour's offer - taken by eight of his LIV Golf League colleagues - for conditional tournament releases for the 2026 season, which was only granted if players agreed to withdraw their appeals, pay their fines and play two extra events.

Rahm described the deal as "extorting players" but has since , leaving his DP World Tour future - and potential Ryder Cup eligibility - uncertain.

"We keep talking about the DP World Tour and trying to figure out a solution that works best," Rahm said ahead of The Masters. "I didn't think that going the legal route and going to court was good for anybody.

"I have faith in us and the DP World Tour - we're going to find a good solution for both of us."

Luke Donald has previously stated he hopes that Rahm will be able to feature in his Ryder Cup team again next September, where Team Europe will be chasing a historic third consecutive win over Team USA.

When asked whether he was confident of playing next September at Adare Manor, Rahm said: "Yeah."

Donald says he "hopes" a resolution can be found between the DP World Tour and Rahm, who is one of several contenders for this week's Masters.

"It's not really my job to judge his thoughts. I'm really here to sort of listen to him, listen to the tour, try and sit down and figure out if there's a resolution," Donald told Your Site News.

"I know how much he loves the Ryder Cup, he loves what the legacy of playing in Ryder Cups means, and he understands that fully - just like some of the other great Spanish players, Jose [Maria Olazabal], Seve [Ballesteros], Sergio [Garcia], they understand that and it's a big part of their makeup."

The deal offered by the DP World Tour included players having to commit to a minimum of six events, two of which were at the tour's choosing, with Rahm previously stating that he would sign an agreement if he were required to play only four events each season.

, while Justin Rose said there was some .

"I think I already have [compromised]," Rahm added. "We've already told them many times. I think this is not the week to be talking about this, this being the first major of the year and how important this is for the game of golf in general and for all of us.

"We keep talking to them, and we keep trying to negotiate. I have given in quite a bit on a few things, which I think I made.

"We're going to work it out. It's going to work out. As of now, the DP World Tour is doing what they need to do and following the channels they need to follow, but I'm confident this will be sorted out before I tee it up in September."

Rahm currently isn't scheduled to feature on the DP World Tour until September, following the conclusion of the 2026 LIV Golf League season, with the 31-year-old still keen on multiple events later this year.

"I truly don't know," Rahm admitted over his current DP World Tour status. "I'm not planning to play until September, so that's a bit of a positive. If I were unable right now, it doesn't matter since I'm not planning to tee it up until after August like I have done in my career.

"I do intend to continue to support the DP World Tour. I've been very thankful to be a member and I've been very thankful to support the Tour and play some wonderful events.

"The Irish Open has been very good to me, and I would love to make a return. Wentworth [BMW PGA Championship] has been fantastic every single year, the Spanish Open, maybe even the Dunhill [Links Championship].

"We have some events like the French Open and the Omega [European Masters]. Those are events that I'd love to have the chance to play."
