Super League: Huddersfield Giants beat York Knights for second successive win as Catalans win derby thriller with Toulouse

Jacob Gagai scored two second-half tries as Huddersfield made it back-to-back Super League wins by beating York 34-14 at the Accu Stadium.

The Australian, playing at centre against the Knights, went over twice early in the second period after three tries in the game's opening 14 minutes from team-mates Adam Clune, Niall Evalds and Tanguy Zenon had given the Giants a flying start.

After falling 18-0 behind, York responded with tries from debutant Will Roberts and David Nofoaluma before the interval, but Gagai's double put Huddersfield back in full control.

Nikau Williams went over for a converted score for the visitors just after the hour mark to reduce the deficit to 28-14 with 12 minutes remaining.

However, Huddersfield grabbed their sixth try of the match through Australian hooker Zac Woolford two minutes later to seal victory for the resurgent Giants.

France full-back Tanguy Zenon landed three conversions for Huddersfield and half-back Oliver Russell chipped in with two more, while Knights half-back Roberts landed one of his three attempts.

The Giants, who lost their first five Super League games this season, are being led by director of rugby Andy Kelly after sacking head coach Luke Robinson last month.

They halted their losing start last week with a stunning win at Wigan and have climbed up to 11th in the table, while York sit second-bottom after a fourth successive defeat.

Catalans Dragons claimed a pulsating 33-26 derby win against Toulouse at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Toulouse had three early tries chalked off before their hosts opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Toby Sexton went over, with further tries from Leo Darrelatour and Nick Cotric extending the lead to 16-0.

Toulouse slowly built a sustained spell and did register a try in the 27th minute through Mathieu Jussaume before Cesar Rouge's clever kick found Oliver Ashall-Bott to touch down under the posts.

The visitors hauled themselves back level at 16-16 just before the break when Jussaume took a short pass to crash through the Catalans defence.

Catalans reasserted themselves with a strong start to the second half as Darrelatour went over for his second try and Solomona Faataape added another to open up a 10-point advantage.

Toulouse responded once more as Jussaume darted in from another quick exchange of passes for his hat-trick after 65 minutes.

Catalans got some more breathing space when Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e barged over with 10 minutes left and Sexton added the extras before Leeming slotted over a late drop-goal.

Luke Polselli ran in a consolation try down the right for Toulouse just before the buzzer.
